Our Story
A theatre company born of a simple belief — that Bengali theatre still matters, and still has new stories to tell.
It began in a borrowed rehearsal room.
A handful of actors, one borrowed space, and the conviction that the stage still had something to say. In June 2016, Udbhab opened its first production, Adbhut Protyaborton, at Sujata Sadan — and never looked back.
In the years since, we have grown from that single room into one of Bengal's most fearless young theatre groups — staging original plays, bold adaptations, and reviving the classics, across grand auditoriums and the most intimate of studios.
Walk through the decade
What We Believe
01 Our mission
To bring the language, music, and rhythms of Bengal to audiences who believe theatre still matters — and to widen the doors of the auditorium so that everyone can step inside.
We stage original Bengali plays with care and conviction, carry them from the city's biggest stages to its quietest rooms, and open them — free, where we can — to those who rarely get the chance to watch.
02 Our craft
We weave folk rhythm into contemporary storytelling, and let memory and the modern stage speak to one another. A play might be staged in a grand hall one night and a studio the next — the room changes, the conviction does not.
We work as an ensemble: writers, directors, designers and actors who keep learning, keep questioning, and keep returning to the floor together.
Stories that live between memory and the stage — for a decade, and counting.
Come be part of the next act.
Ten years in, the story continues — and there is a season on stage right now.
