Chronicles of Udbhab
Mapping a decade of productions, festivals, and artistic milestones.

The first night
A handful of actors and one borrowed rehearsal room. Udbhab opens with Adbhut Protyaborton at Sujata Sadan — the first of many nights.

New plays, new spaces
Abataran takes on the questions of the day, while an adaptation of Chekhov travels from grand auditoriums to the most intimate rooms.

The Second Act
Udbhab hosts its own two-day theatre festival, and brings Satyajit Ray to the stage with Bonku Babur Bondhu.

Into the spotlight
Suleiman premieres, and Bonku Babur Bondhu is invited to the Binodini Natyotsav at Minerva — a stage, and an audience, that keeps growing.

Keeping the lights on
When the auditoriums close, we move to the screen — audio plays and short films — and raise relief for the theatre workers left stranded.

The lights come up again
We return to the living stage with Natyakarer Mrityu, after Pirandello — six characters, and a company, in search of the lights once more.

Honouring our elders
A gala at the Academy of Fine Arts felicitates the veterans who shaped Bengali theatre, alongside the symposium Chhobi O Chhobi — and a first prize at the Barisha competition.

Angaar
Utpal Dutt’s masterpiece returns to the stage — honouring the men who go down to the coal — at Gyan Manch and Rabindra Sadan.

Carried across the city
Naishobhoj travels from Natya Academy to Dumdum to standing ovations, while Amader Shomoy steps into the lives of the city’s delivery riders.

The story, still being written
Ten years in, the company is busier than ever — and Naishobhoj headlines the new season. There is more stage ahead than behind.

A decade behind us, and a new season on stage right now.
